BARC (NW) Oulton Park September 20th
Bob Trotter had pole for the last round of the 1986 BARC NW Sports/ Saloon
Challenge. Trotter took the lead on the first lap with Steve Cole moving the TVR
420 into second ahead of Malcolm Hamilton's E Type, before Richard Finney spun
his Stiletto Imp at Knickerbrook, John Helme going off into the barriers in
avoidance and block- ing the track in his stranded Lenham Le Mans - the black
flag coming out. The restart was a replay for Trotter, although Hamilton made it
to second on the opening lap with Stephen Radcliffe's Davrian - incredibly quick
through the corners - in third. David Ellis had had his share of problems in
practice and started in 21st grid slot - needless to say the Aston Martin V8 was
up to eighth by lap 2, fifth on lap 3 and into the lead on lap 4 ...! As Ellis
cantered off into the distance once again Trotter and Cole circulated closely in
second and third places with Roy Yates's Mustang finishing fourth.
